Power Systems Expert (80-100%) - 1645
Help keep Switzerland supplied with electricity
In this challenging role, you will provide technical support for the development and design of Switzerland’s transmission grid. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing requirements for integrating new technologies, such as batteries, data centres and HVDC, into Switzerland’s extra-high-voltage grid
- Contributing to the development of the future strategic grid, coordinating activities within Swissgrid and collaborating with partners and customers
- Providing technical expertise across the company and supporting system design
- Providing specialist support to development projects and stakeholders, and assuming technical ownership of internal and external assignments and studies
- Identifying and analysing technological developments and trends relevant to grid development, and deriving the implications and required actions for future system operations and the construction of new grid components
- Representing Swissgrid’s interests in national and international bodies (e.g. VSE/AES, ENTSO-E) and in dealings with relevant stakeholders
- Ensuring the consistency and ongoing development of key regulations and industry documents within your area of expertise
What you bring to the role
For this position, we are looking for a collaborative professional with a reliable, structured and quality-focused approach, as well as strong technical expertise in supporting the development of Switzerland’s transmission grid. You will bring:
- A university degree, and potentially a doctorate, in electrical engineering or a related field
- At least five years of professional experience in the energy supply sector and/or industry in a specialist or technical role
- In-depth knowledge of relevant energy system technologies and concepts (e.g. converters, batteries, data centres, HVDC)
- Knowledge of how the transmission grid operates and of its individual grid elements
- A high level of self-motivation and initiative, with a proactive and independent approach
- The ability to share knowledge and experience, present persuasive arguments to management and external partners, and build consensus
- Excellent German skills and good English skills are required. French skills are an advantage.

Its work covers both conventional grid planning involving lines and substations, and emerging topics such as batteries, data centre integration, compensation systems and HVDC.
